Draw Reverse and Conceal is an interactive installation proposal that explores the notion
of mortality and gender roles. It is a human piece that deals with these loaded issues in a
playful manner. The piece is a battle between user and nature, through the use of traditionally gender-specific
tools availabe to all visitors. Cell-like organisms that move around and slowly begin to erase the persons
face will represent the nature aspect, juxtaposing play against horror.
The piece will consist of a washroom with a sink, a mirror, an oversized razor, and an oversized
lipstick. The sink will not be functional but will hold the razor and lipstick. The mirror will
be a touch screen that reflects an image of the person standing in front of it. The mirror can
only be manipulated by direct use of the razor and lipstick to its surface through sensors contained within each object.
Color recognition software, such as TTC (Track Them Colors), will be used against the background
wall and anything standing in front of it in order to locate the face on the screen. The
initially free-floating cells will be programmed to gravitate towards the face once it has been
located. The cells will also be programed to erase the
image of the face on the screen through a gradual low-intensity level of opacity.
